Weekend in LaGrande

Most of the family got together one weekend in May to install a sprinkler system for my grandma. Luckily the weather held out until the last minute.
It wasn't an easy job, but everyone pitched in.
Dad posing with the cows.
These guys were in charge of the technical aspect, while the rest of us were just free labor!
The brains behind the operation.
There was plenty of lounging around and chatting too.
When we got to Boise Sunday, we celebrated Dad's 56th Birthday!
It was a quick but fun weekend.

GO Portneuf!

One of the many grand opening events for our new hospital was a 5K fun run. It was a cold 35 degrees that morning, but it was fun. And I think I may have pulled a hami. During a fun run. Not fun, pathetic really.

Elephant Soccer

Saturday, I was able to go to one of our neices' soccer games. I now know how entertaining little kids can be! Miah (4) and Abby (3) are Elephants and are coached by their mom Stacy.
Three year olds need quite a bit of redirection in a 50 minute game. They also need frequent reminders of which goal is theirs.
I was actually surprised to see how good each of them are getting. I think it is cool that they are so close in age that they get to play on the same team.

This is Miah scoring one of her many goals. Abby also scored a goal, but I didn't capture it in a photo.
Soccer players can get a little rowdy and sometimes you fall down.

But in the end, there is always a cheer for the other team, and of course, snacks.

Fun times in Utah

Before heading to Moab, we stopped in SLC to visit Danny's sister and fam. It took a little bit, but Jaxon warmed up to Uncle Danny. The next day we were off to Southern Utah.

We got to Moab late afternoon and we were worried we wouldn't find a place to camp on the Colorado River, but got lucky when we found this spot. I had forgotten how muddy looking the river is! Must be all the red dirt. (We took quite a bit of that red dirt home with us in the Tahoe.)

This was built right into the side of the rock.

The beautiful view from our camp site.

The next day was about 70 degrees and sunny.

This is the Klondike Bluffs trail. We had to dodge a few jeeps that were using our trail. Our good planning had us in Moab the same week as the 45th annual Jeep Safari. They were everywhere!

These are dinosaur tracks! There were several on this trail, all surrounded by rocks so you wouldn't miss them!

I look super awesome in a helmet, don't I?!

At the top of the trail, we hiked into Arches National Park for this wonderful view.

There were all sorts of crazy colors in Southern Utah. So different from Idaho! Unfortunately it started raining and we ended our trip early, but it was nice to get out of town for a few days. I can't wait till its 70 degrees around here! Can't wait for summer!

St. Paddy's Day

Today was the Shamrock Shuffle 5K! I came in second among women with a time of 24:56. (This was a very small race!) Now I remember why I stick to 10Ks... I don't have my younger years to compare times with. It was good to get running again, and it was a great start to the fun run season!

This is the first fun run where I've stuck my head in a poster. So there had to be pictures.

I can always count on Deb to run with me. It was a fun morning and Shriner's Hospital is a worthy cause.

Gibson Jack

I've been feeling couped up lately, so we decided to go for a hike with Brody. Being up at Gibson Jack made me long for Spring so I could run on the trails again!
Danny sporting his sophisticated look. Well actually he just got too warm with the sun shining.

Of course Brody enjoyed himself. This was some much needed exercise for our fat dog!

Enjoying the sunshine.

Winter Adventure

Monday, we set out to get the perfect Christmas Tree. We were told by BLM that the tree cutting area was only accessible by snowmobile or snowshoe, but of course we had to try it anyway. We packed our warm clothes, camelbacks, snowshoes, and thankfully a shovel. It is almost like we already knew how this day was going to go...

Brody, of course, had no idea why Danny was shoveling snow and not playing with him.
Because of all the snow, it was pretty hard to know where the side of the road was! So we got ourselves high centered, and Danny started shoveling. And shoveling. And shoveling.
After more than an hour, we were free and happy that we weren't going to stay the night in the truck.

Even though we were no where near the approved tree cutting area, we were not about the drive all the way home without a Christmas tree. The owner will never miss it.

It's probably a good thing we didn't stay the night. By how much snow was coming down, we would probably be buried before morning!

The tree was secured, and we were on our way home. Whats a Christmas tradition if you don't have a few funny stories to tell!?

A Little Mermaid Birthday

Abby turned 3 years old on Halloween, but she did not want a Halloween party. She wanted a Little Mermaid Party. So that's what she got.
It's hard to lie about sneaking cake before its time to sing when the cake has bright blue frosting!
It think they have been caught!

Her very own Little Mermaid costume.

Now it is time to sing Happy Birthday.

Loving the blue frosting.

Abby and her new bike. It was a fun day that everyone needed.
