The 4th and 5th grade classes were challenged to write an essay on the topic “If Washington School Could Talk,” as a tribute to the last days of school for Washington elementary. Benson won second place and was awarded $25 and a giant candy bar at an assembly of the school and interested community members. He was a little embarrassed and chose not to have his essay read in front of everyone. But he did go up to claim his award.
